Camus in Comic Sans

A brief experiment to see what would happen if some of the thoughts of the great Existentialist were refigured using Comic Sans MS, clip art, coloured ink and extraneous punctuation. I think it kind of peps them up a bit, no?

25 years of The Pet Shop Boys in The Guardian

I wrote the Guardian Guide's music column last weekend, celebrating 25 years since West End Girls first came out and the new Pet Shop Boys compilation. You can read it here.

The Hard Sell: Marks & Spencer

I took over the Guardian Guide's Hard Sell column a few weeks ago, looking at the latest round of M&S adverts with Caroline Quentin. You can read it here.

Sex And The City

In a departure from my normal subject matter, I was commissioned by Stylist to write an opinion piece on Miranda from Sex And The City. Cue Houellebecq quotes, references to American Psycho and a woman having her brain eaten by her own genitals.

The Secret Life of IEDs

My piece on the use of Improvised Explosive Devices in Iraq and Afghanistan is out now in the new Esquire.

The Guardian Hard Sell: Windows 7

I wrote this week's Hard Sell column in the Guardian Guide. The latest target of my mildly sarcastic wrath was the current series of Windows 7 ads. You can read the piece here.

Until The Light Takes Us: Norwegian Black Metal

My piece on the superb new Black Metal documentary UNTIL THE LIGHT TAKES US is in this week's Guardian Guide. The film focusses on Burzum, Darkthrone and Mayhem and is a superb analysis of where the scene came from and what went wrong with it. You can read the piece here. I also wrote a longer piece on the scene for FHM back in 2009, which you can read here.

Iron Maiden for the 2012 Olympics

My piece backing the Facebook campaign to have Iron Maiden opening the London Olympics is on Guardian Music. If you like the idea of thunderous heavy metal, giant zombies and triple-guitar assaults restoring a bit of national pride, read the piece here and then join the Facebook campaign here. 'Scream for me, London!' etc.
